Israel has developed a flexible and structured approach to employing foreign nationals through its B-1 work visa framework. This system supports economic growth, particularly in high-tech, infrastructure, academia, and specialized industries, by offering four main visa categories tailored to different employment scenarios—all guided by the principles of Efficiency, Accountability, Compliance, and Human Rights (EACH).

One-Year Expert Visa
This visa is designed for foreign professionals with specialized skills not readily available in Israel. Common fields include engineering, pharma, industrial services, and education. Employers must prove that no local candidates are suitable and that the foreign worker is qualified. Applications go through the Ministry of Interior, often with input from other ministries. Workers are entitled to the same labor protections as Israeli employees. This visa can be renewed every year up to 63 months (beyond that it is required to submit an extraordinary application) and the company is required to pay the assignee the expert salary (twice the average salary in Israel as gross base salary per month). In addition, a consular process is required under this route.

0ne-Year High-Tech Visa
A fast-track route for tech companies recognized by the Israel Innovation Authority. Processing takes just 10 business days (plus consular steps), enabling companies to quickly hire international talent for tech roles. The visa is renewable and plays a key role in addressing urgent labor needs in Israel’s dynamic tech ecosystem.

SEA 90-Day Visa (Short Employment Authorization)
Ideal for short-term, project-based work—especially in high-tech, R&D, and academia. Valid for up to 90 days within a calendar year, this visa supports activities such as consulting, teaching, or temporary corporate work. It allows multiple entries and provides flexibility for engagements across several visits, and processing time is up to 6 working days. In addition, no consular process is required. Only individuals from visa-exempted countries to Israel can apply under this process.

STEP 90-Day Visa (Short Term Employment Permit)
This visa supports technical professionals entering Israel for specific projects like equipment installation, maintenance, or training. It’s granted for one 90-day period per calendar year and is non-renewable. Typically used when foreign companies send specialists to fulfill contractual obligations with Israeli clients. Under this process individuals from all nationalities can apply, and a consular process is required.
