On February 1st, 2021, the Government approved the extension of the ban on air travel to and from Israel (with exceptions) subject to the current regulations, by 7 additional days, until Sunday, February 7, 2021 at midnight at this stage. The government has approved the establishment of an Exceptions Committee to review applications to enter Israel on humanitarian grounds and for special reasons.
In order for a foreign expert to travel to Israel during the shutdown of Ben Gurion’s Airport, a special application must be submitted, reviewed, and approved by two committees:
1. The first committee will examine the urgency of the application, and whether a foreign expert is indeed required to arrive in Israel urgently. The committee will only approve very specific and urgent applications, which can be proved essential to the Israeli economy that cannot be postponed.
2. The second committee will examine the arrival of a foreign expert with a private flight. Since there are no commercial flights to Israel, a foreign expert who wishes to enter Israel must demonstrate that he/she can arrive in Israel with a private flight, and receive authorization for the plane to land in Israel.
The committees will be composed of officials from the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Energy.
