In the next few weeks, the Israeli Ministry of Interior will launch the Electronic Travel Authorization process, intended to ease the visa process for  individuals traveling  to Israel for business visits or leisure purposes. These visitors will benefit from a new electronic visa system, making travel to Israel smoother and more convenient.

The ETA will be required for both tourist and business visitors, regardless of whether they come from countries where a pre-entry visa is required or not (i.e. will be required from both visa waiver and non-waiver countries).

In the coming weeks, The Ministry will commence a pilot program for the electronic visa in the coming months, with India being the likely initial launch destination. Additionally, pilot programs will be conducted with for nationals of the United States and another country to gather insights and refine the system as needed. A dedicated service hotline will also be established to assist passengers facing difficulties or seeking information regarding the ETA process.

While a precise timeline for implementation has not been provided, it is important to note that tourists from countries such as the European Union, the United States, and Australia, who currently enjoy visa-free entry to Israel, will also be required to complete the ETA form.

The ETA system aims to enhance security measures by screening individuals with unusual criminal records and identifying potential work intentions, which may require a separate work visa rather than an ETA for business or tourism purposes. This proactive approach will reduce delays and improve information gathering about incoming tourists.

The introduction of the ETA system aligns with our objectives of bolstering security, immigration management, and providing efficient services to visitors, thereby minimizing the risk of entry refusal upon arrival. Similar systems are already in place in countries such as the USA, Canada, and Australia, with plans for further expansion.

It is important to remind that the B-1 Work Visa Processing Remains Consulate-Based: If you require a B-1 work visa, please note that the processing will continue at the consulate as usual.

This ETA system will allow eligible travelers to apply for a tourist visa online and receive the authorisation via email, eliminating the need to visit the Israeli embassy. Travelers will submit all required documents online, and upon verification, they will receive their electronic visa online.

Exceptional Cases: In rare instances where further examination or additional documents are necessary, applicants may be invited to the Israeli embassy for further processing.

The Population and Immigration Authority emphasizes that the electronic visa marks a significant technological advancement, enhancing the services provided to foreign applicants.

Eyal Siso, Director General of the Population and Immigration Authority, expressed his enthusiasm, stating,

“The launch of the electronic visa is a real revolution in regards to the service provided by the Authority to foreigners who are abroad.”
